CES Journey
On Novembetr 9, 2011 a meeting was held at Fountaindale with the staff, Dr. Wilcox, Donna Hanlin, Dr.Markoe to discuss the opportunity for Fountaindale to become a Coalition School. We were given the opportunity to use the parts of the county instructional system that we liked and stop doing what we did not like. This is going to be a reflection of this journey.
Teachers have been given the opportunity to create their own benchmarks, and teach the curriculum and content authentically, making the interdisciplinary connections to meet the school focus. The SAS will no longer attend the SAS meetings each month, the F&P assessments will continue to be given at school, but will not be sent to PMI. The focus for our TIF grant will be to assist teachers in looking at the common core, the state curriculum, meshing them and creating authentic assessments that are not necessarily a paper pencil task.
The work began on Nov. 15 and continued onto the 17th and will continue on November 28th where teachers will have a full day to design their curriculum and create authentic lessons. This work will continue throughout the school year during professional development days and CFIP meetings.
In May there will be a school wide Exhibition of Learning. Members of the community, families and friends will all be invited. This will occur during the same time that the Coalition Affirmation Team will be at Fountaindale to assess the work towards becoming and Affirmed Coalition School.
