Fountaindale Elementary School is an integrated school for the arts and academic excellence. The school consists of four magnet classrooms for grades two through five. There are six dedicated Encore Teachers in the areas of general music, instrumental music,, dance, art,STEM, and physical education. The Encore Teachers provided integrated lessons to classrooms using the current curricular connections that the classroom teachers are teaching. These lessons are provided through the lens of the Encore Teachers specific content area.
Fountaindale Elementary is also a school that is associated with the Chesapeake Coalition of Essential Schools. This is the third year of affiliation and plan to become an Affiliated school with the Coalition in May 2012. Fountaindale became a CES Fully Affirmed school in December of 2012.
The state of Maryland recognizes schools that are provide Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education.(EGATE). Fountaindale was recognized as an EGATE school in the winter of 2011.
Fountaindale has completed its third year as a Teacher Incentive Fund school. Teachers have focused their work on the development of goals and worked within vertical teams to bring the "best practices" to the students. The level of rigor within the work has been demonstrated by the increase in our MAPS scores over the course of the year.
Fountaindale has made the transition to the Common Core State Standards. Our focus for the year was in the area of writing. We will continue with this focus for the upcoming school year.
